Why take a screening quiz?

Most people wait years between first noticing something is wrong and getting help. A screening quiz will not diagnose you, but it can put words to what you have been feeling and give you a clearer sense of whether it is worth talking to a professional. The quizzes below use the standard questionnaires used in primary care and behavioral health settings across Massachusetts: the PHQ-9 for depression, the GAD-7 for anxiety, and the AUDIT for alcohol use. Each one takes about two minutes and gives you a score with a plain-English explanation.

What to do with your results

A moderate or high score means it is worth a conversation with a clinician, whether that is your primary care provider, a therapist, or our admissions team. A low score does not mean nothing is wrong; if you took the quiz because something feels off, trust that. Either way, you can call us at (781) 570-5781 for a free, confidential assessment with a licensed clinician who can tell you what level of care, if any, makes sense. Many people who call are not sure they need treatment, and we would rather talk it through than have you guess.

About these tools

The PHQ-9, GAD-7, and AUDIT are public-domain screening instruments with decades of validation research behind them. They are screening tools, not diagnostic tests, and they cannot account for your full history or circumstances. Only a licensed clinician can make a diagnosis. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) or go to your nearest emergency room.
