The heart of our day treatment and IOP programs: small, clinician-led groups where you learn practical skills alongside people who understand.
People are often skeptical about group therapy before they start and surprised by how much they value it afterward. The reasons are consistent: you discover you’re not the only one, you learn from people a few steps ahead of you, you get honest feedback from peers who have no reason to flatter you, and you practice being known. Decades of research back this up; for both mental health and substance use, group treatment performs as well as individual therapy and adds things individual therapy can’t.
Groups at Forrest are small and led by licensed clinicians. They are practical rather than lecture-style, with a focus on skills you can use that same day. A typical week includes a mix of:
What’s said in group stays in group. Every member agrees to confidentiality, respect, and no substance use before sessions. You’ll never be forced to share more than you’re ready to, and clinicians manage the room so no one dominates or gets lost.

Groups are kept small enough that everyone gets time to participate. Sizes vary by program and topic.
Groups are organized around common needs, and many clients are dealing with both mental health and substance use. Clinicians place you where the fit is best.
