Outpatient depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance use treatment in Bedford from a team that understands minority stress, identity-related trauma, and what affirming care actually means in practice.
Affirming care is more than a rainbow sticker on the door. It means your clinicians use your name and pronouns without being corrected twice, your identity is never treated as the problem to be solved, your relationships are taken seriously, and the specific stressors of being LGBTQ+ in your family, workplace, or faith community are part of the clinical picture rather than ignored. Our intake form asks for your chosen name and pronouns, our staff receive ongoing training on LGBTQ+ health, and we will not place you in a group where you need to hide who you are.
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer adults experience depression, anxiety, PTSD, and substance use disorders at roughly two to three times the rate of the general population. That is not because of who you are. It is the cumulative effect of what researchers call minority stress: discrimination, rejection by family, concealment, internalized stigma, and in many cases outright trauma. Alcohol, cannabis, stimulants, and other substances are often the first tools people reach for to manage that stress, and nightlife and dating cultures can make heavy use feel normal. Treatment works best when it addresses the stress and the substance use together.
We treat depression, anxiety, PTSD and complex trauma, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and substance use disorders, including alcohol, methamphetamine and other stimulants, GHB, and chemsex-related patterns that many programs do not know how to discuss. Co-occurring conditions are treated together through our dual diagnosis program.
We welcome transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse adults. We do not require any particular stage of transition, and we will not pathologize your gender. If you are on hormone therapy, our psychiatric providers coordinate medication management with your prescriber. If you are navigating family rejection, workplace discrimination, or the stress of the current political climate, those are legitimate clinical concerns and we treat them as such.
Our approach centers on CBT, DBT for emotion regulation and distress tolerance, EMDR for trauma, and family therapy when it is wanted and safe, including with chosen family. Individual therapy is where identity-specific work usually happens; groups are mixed, moderated, and held to clear standards of respect.
No. We are a general adult outpatient program that provides affirming care. Our groups include people of all orientations and identities, and our clinicians are trained in LGBTQ+ health. Some people prefer that mix; if you want an LGBTQ+-only setting, we can help you find one.
No. We ask about your identity so we can provide appropriate care, not so we can question it. Your sexual orientation and gender identity are never treated as symptoms.
Yes. We treat methamphetamine, GHB, ketamine, and other substance use in the context it happens in, without judgment, and address the connection to sex, dating, and intimacy directly.
